Has anybody heard this since starting the challenge, "Why are you doing a 9 month challenge?" How about, "9 months!? That's too long!"
Yes 9 months is a long time to stay motivated. We all understand that the reason we opted for a 9 month challenge, not a 2 month challenge, is to make healthy lifestyle changes. Anyone can bust their butt for a few weeks, use extreme diets tantamount to starvation and show results. But can you sustain that? Will you be able to maintain the weight you lost? After you resume your normal eating habits will you be heavier than when you started?
We have 4 different prize dates including the final weigh-in. The weigh-ins are roughly 10 weeks apart. What if you are having trouble staying motivated for 10 weeks at a time? Start setting mini goals...
E.g.
-Our first weigh-in is May 14th, 5 weeks away. Keep motivated, we can all push on for 5 weeks.
-After our first challenge we have our Regional Convention July 4th weekend. I know the kids want to play in the pool after the program....I can push on, it's only 6 weeks after our first challenge.
-July 30th is our 2nd weigh-in. Man, that's the end of the month. I've been really working hard, Let's see what I can accomplish in 4 weeks, this isn't even that hard!
-Josh, Erica and others are going to the beach the first week of September. Maybe we can visit for a few days, that's 4 weeks away. I want to look good at the beach. Keep on going!
-October 15th last weigh-in before the finale. Ok this is only 6 weeks out, I've made so much progress. I'm pumped!
You get the point. If you are having trouble staying motivated, start using mini goals. Try to find different events roughly 4-6 weeks apart and stay motivated. It doesn't have to be a vacation, it could be a wedding or other special events. What if you don't have anything planned? What else can you do?
Reward yourself! Choose a date and a reward. If I lose __ lbs and exercise ___ x a week by ___ date we are going out to a fancy dinner. I get $____ to spend on new clothes (because your old clothes no longer fit!)
9 months is a long time, but we can do it by setting short term goals. I look forward to seeing everyone on April 16th at Ralph and Sarah's house.
